Tramadol Dosage

The dose and duration of administration of Tramadol are determined by physician individually, depending on the intensity and nature of pain.
For moderate pain treatment, adults and adolescents over 14 years old are recommended to intake Tramadol in a dose of 1 ml (50 mg of Tramadol hydrochloride). If after 30-60 minutes the pain does not cease, the patient can take 1 ml of the drug again.

Effect and Proper Dosage

In severe pain cases, it is recommended to intake up to 500 mg of Tramadol hcl every 4 hours. In this case, individual monitoring of patients and the availability of special equipment are necessary.

The drug’s effect lasts for 4-8 hours. In normal use, the daily dose should not exceed 400 mg. In the presence of tumors, or during surgery, Tramadol dosage may be increased significantly.
Children aged 1 to 13 years are recommended to intake of 25-50 mg as a single dose. In this case, Tramadol is diluted with water for injection. We need to consider what concentrations should be achieved in this case (1 ml of the drug contains 50 mg of Tramadol hcl).

Special Cases

If the patient has impaired liver or kidney function, as well as elderly patients with severe pain, Tramadol is prescribed once a day. In the case of presence of chronic pain, the interval between doses should be increased due to delayed elimination and the accumulation danger of Tramadol in the body.
Patients at the age of more than 75 years, even with an absence of visible health problems of liver or kidneys should increase the interval between taking the drug.

Tramadol Overdose

Symptoms of overdose: respiratory depression and convulsions.
Treatment of overdose: maintenance of adequate pulmonary ventilation and symptomatic therapy in a specialized department. It is advisable to use Diazepam for convulsions treatment. In light cases, it is enough to wash the stomach. The use of Naloxone is not required as it does not eliminate all symptoms of Tramadol poisoning.
